The fun way, not the RIGHT way.
This was taken from my SubStack newsletter; ‘Always Growing with Rebecca Hansell’ make sure that you sign up to get all my content straight to your inbox (it’s only about once a month, so don’t worry - I won’t spam you!).
Since I was a little girl, I have always been taught to do things the ‘right way’. No elbows on the table, respect your elders, keep your head down and work hard, always be polite, that the ‘right way’ would show results - but now, at 32, I can see that actually this is proving to be BS.
Growing up believing that hard work always equals results means that if you aren’t quite hitting the mark as an adult, it can be all too easy to blame yourself. It becomes a personal failing, rather than just one of those things, and that can manifest in a number of different, often challenging, ways.
The new year can be really hard for many people, there is a weight of expectation that can be hard to live up to and we are constantly told we need to refine the way we do life - but what if we stop?
What if we say goodbye to striving to do everything the ‘right way’, and instead just do things the fun way?
The way that makes our soul happy.
That makes us smile.
That actually makes our lives better on the inside, not just for Instagram?
This year so far, has not been the best as I battled the dreaded post-Christmas bug that has been doing the rounds, but even if I haven’t been very productive, it has given me time to think. I am not doing a resolution for 2024, instead I am making myself a promise that I will follow the joy and try to do things the fun way rather than the right way.
Because, girls just want to have fun - or so they say.
